- Setting off from Marrakech around 8 am, your vehicle climbs the switchbacks of the Tizi n'Tichka pass ÔÇö at 2,260 m the highest paved road in North Africa ÔÇö before descending into the sun-baked south. The first landmark is the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, whose sun-dried earth ramparts have provided backdrops for blockbusters from Gladiator to The Mummy. Continue to Ouarzazate ÔÇö the 'Gateway to the Sahara' ÔÇö before winding deeper east through the spectacular Dades Gorges as the last light fades. Check in to your comfortable valley hotel for a traditional Moroccan dinner and a well-earned night's rest surrounded by dramatic canyon scenery.
- After breakfast, the road continues east through the strikingly narrow Todra Gorge ÔÇö a cathedral of sheer limestone walls rising 300 metres above a crystalline river, beloved by climbers from around the world. Crossing the vast Tafilalet plain, the rust-coloured crests of Erg Chebbi gradually rise from the flat desert floor: Morocco's most breathtaking dune landscape, reaching 150 metres at its highest point. At the dune's edge a camel awaits to carry you into the heart of the Sahara in time for sunset. Arrive at your private nomadic camp for dinner under a star-filled sky and optional Berber music around the campfire.
- Rise early for a sunrise camel trek over the dunes ÔÇö watching dawn break in rose and gold across the crests of Erg Chebbi from camelback is one of Morocco's most iconic moments. After a traditional Berber breakfast at camp, the return journey winds back through the Anti-Atlas foothills and up over the High Atlas before dropping back into the vibrant energy of Marrakech, arriving in the early evening.
